Aktion Club donates to community causes

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Members of the Aktion Club of Sullivan County recently donated needed winter attire to the Federation for the Homeless in Monticello. They distributed blankets, scarves, socks, hats, gloves, winter jackets and cans of soup as well as personal hygiene items. Director Kathy Kreiter said they were very much needed and appreciated.

In addition to helping out the Federation, the members raised $215 for the WSUL Heart-a-Thon by selling paper hearts to their friends and families. This amount was presented to Al Frangipane, the “Heart Man,” and was given in honor and in memory of Walter Madden Jr., a member of the club who had recently passed away and was loved by all.

At the same meeting, the club installed two new members. Woodridge Kiwanian/Aktion Club advisor Sue Kasofsky officiated.

Aktion Club members are individuals with various degrees of developmental disabilities who are affiliated with Arc Greater Hudson Valley, The Center for Discovery and New Hope Community.

The club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Monticello and Woodridge.

Club members’ disabilities certainly do not interfere with their love and compassion to help people in the community.

Contributed by the Aktion Club of Sullivan County.
