NARROWSBURG, NY — Commander Peter DeAngelis of the Sons of the American Legion Detachment Of New York (SAL) will soon present a check to the Tusten Youth Commission in the amount of $15,069.

DeAngelis was elected in July 2023 in Tarrytown to lead the 30,000-member detachment.

DeAngelis visited over 120 American Legion posts and stopped at each of New York’s counties.

He visited the counties with Timothy Collmer, American Legion Department Commander, and Karen St. Hilaire, president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of New York.

They attended many breakfasts, luncheons and dinners, as well as tours.

DeAngelis collected donations for several Legion programs, as well as the Tusten Youth Commission—his personal project for the year. He is a seven-year resident of the Town Of Tusten.

DeAngelis and his wife are both licensed foster parents with Sullivan County, and the Tusten Youth Commission is an organization that is very close to his heart.

The Sons of the American Legion started in 1932 and consist of all male descendants of veterans from all wars, who either belong to the American Legion or are deceased veterans. Commander DeAngelis is a 26-year member of the Sons of the American Legion and is involved in all the programs of the American Legion, including Children and Youth. Commander DeAngelis membership is with Post 1636 located in Kings County Brooklyn NY.
