MONTICELLO, NY — Brian P. Conaty, Acting District Attorney of Sullivan County, announced that Gregory Cochran, 48, of Monticello, NY, was sentenced to nine years’ incarceration in state prison upon his plea of guilty to felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree before Sullivan County Court Judge Jim Farrell on January 30, 2023. Cochran pleaded guilty shortly before a jury trial was to commence.
This conviction stems from the execution of two search warrants in the Village of Monticello on May 20, 2022, by the New York State Police and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office following a domestic violence complaint. At that time, Cochran was found in possession of a loaded, operable, and illegal nine-millimeter pistol as well as cocaine and fentanyl. Cochran, a five-time convicted felon, was sentenced as Second Violent Felony Offender.
Conaty said: “Those who possess illegal firearms in Sullivan County will go to prison. It’s that simple.”
Conaty praised the hard work of the New York State Police for their diligence and thorough investigation into this dangerous conduct.
