NARROWSBURG, NY — The Thurman Barker Quartet will perform original jazz compositions on Saturday, May 20 at 8 p.m., part of the 2017 Tusten Theatre Spring Cultural Series.
Born into the vibrant Chicago music scene, legendary drummer and percussionist Thurman Barker began studying at the American Conservatory of Music at 13 years old. By 17, he was playing professionally. As a student at Roosevelt Musical College, he began to explore works by pioneering composers including Robert Kraft, Edgar Varese, Bela Bartok and Ralph Shapey. Barker created the jazz studies program at Bard College and has been professor of music there since 1993. He lives in Sullivan County.
Tickets cost $20 advance, $25 at the door, and can be purchased at www.delawarevalleyartsalliance.org and at 845/252-7272. The Tusten Theatre is located at 210 Bridge St.
