WILLIAM ‘BILL’ A. WORZEL

William “Bill” A. Worzel, 81, of Barryville, NY, a longtime resident of the area, passed away peacefully Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Care Center, Liberty NY.

The son of the late Raymond and Emma (Williams) Worzel, he was born February 19, 1943 in Pond Eddy, NY. Bill was married to Martha (Eldred) Worzel for 61 years.

Bill was a retired Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force and a retired manager of the Highland General Store.

Bill was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Church, Shohola, PA. He was a member of American Legion Post 1363, Eldred, NY. He was a dedicated member of the Highland Planning Board. He was a member of the Beaver Brook Rod and Gun Club and a former member of the Yulan Rod and Gun Club. In his youth, Bill was a Boy Scout and later a board member of the Katahdin Area Boy Scout Council in Maine.

A family statement reads: “Bill was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Family was very important to Bill, and his family always came first. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed country music. He had a really good sense of humor. He was so damn smart; he could fix anything! He also enjoyed an occasional Schaefer beer. He will truly be missed by all, but especially by his loving wife Martha.”

Survivors include his wife Martha; their four children: Paul Worzel of Eldred; Beth Ann Worzel of New Albany, IN; Brian Worzel and his wife Heather of Glen Spey, NY; Amy Sommers and her husband Jerome of Barryville; two sisters: Betty Shields and Marilyn Dellert; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and his two kitty cats: Boston and Fenway.

Bill is predeceased by his siblings: Frances Braun and Shirley Collins; his grandson; and a great-granddaughter.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, March 21 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and on Friday, March 22 from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Harrison-Rasmussen Funeral Home, 3412 Rte. 97, Barryville.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, March 22 at 10 a.m. at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, PA. Christian burial will take place in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Shohola, PA.
