Villa Roma fire among several incidents keeping firefighters busy

CALLICOON, NY — A structure fire at Villa Roma’s main hotel on January 15 was quickly put under control.

“Had lots of smoke due to burning belts and wires, but fortunately no flames and everything was put to rest safely,” said the Hortonville Fire Department, the lead responder, on its Facebook page.

Hortonville said it was assisted by Callicoon Fire Department Station 63, Jeffersonville Fire Department Station 12, White Lake Fire Department Station 35’s fast team, BC-6, and 53-1. They responded shortly after 5 p.m. on January 15.

Callicoon’s Station 63 responded after a busy weekend, when firefighters answered a call on Saturday to an accident in which the vehicle occupants were entrapped; on Sunday to a medical call with Upper Delaware VAC, an activated alarm, and a tree and wires down; and on Monday to another activated alarm.

The Villa Roma is poised for purchase by Fay Hospitality Catskills LLC for $15.7, according to the Sullivan County Industrial Agency (IDA). The closing was expected by the end of 2023. Jennifer Flad, the IDA director, did not immediately return a call asking about the status of the sale.
