GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — For all intents and purposes, it was all over in the first half.

On September 26, the Lady Bears of Tri-Valley (5-1) posted four goals against the Port Jervis Lady Raiders (3-2)

Their opposing booters scored a lone goal during the homestand girls’ varsity soccer match in the wake of a scoreless second frame, giving Tri-Valley (5-1) with a 4-1 win.

The Lady Bears’ Kendall McGregor scored three goals, thus picking up a hat trick, while teammate Kaytlyn Ingrassio added another score.

Contributing assists came from  Ingrassio (1) and Mya Ibarra (1), while in goal Allison Chevalier and Emily Rusin made eight saves. Liahna Mullen scored a goal off Port Jervis with Kaitlyn Batzel supplying an assist, and Alexa Bennett was credited with five saves.

“We knew Tri-Valley was going to be a tough team based on the scores we saw,” said Nicole Hartman, coach of the Lady Raiders. “They are a very athletic and a talented team.”

Goals for the season?

“To build the chemistry, score more, and look for people to take on that leadership role,” replied Coach Hartman.

The Lady Raiders field eight seniors (Alexa Bennett, Alyssa Carroll, Avery Edwards, Isabella Montalvo, Yacine Niasse, Brianne Olenick, Olivia Rodriguez and Anastasia Van Horn), while eighth grader Mia Leeper is picking up varsity experience.

The team captains were Bennett, Montalvo and Van Horn.

Kayla Connolly is at the helm of the Lady Bears, who last season advanced to the sectional finals only to fall to Millbrook, finishing the year 10-2-3. Not too bad for a team that was 2-10 at the close of the previous season.

“Our goal is to make it back to the section finals,” said Coach Connolly. “Last year we went to the finals, and this year we want to go further.”

Tri-Valley is also senior-rich with 10 upperclassmen: Joyce Brooks, Grace Gozzo, Kaytlyn Ingrassio, Riley Kelly, Kendall McGregor, Abbigail Mentnech, Isabella Mentnech, Samantha Mentnech, Emily Mentnech and Meggie Travis, with Brooks, McGregor and Abbigail Mentnech providing leadership on the field as captains.
