Spring is springing, dear readers! Heed the call of the wild and opt outside to celebrate the season of rising energy, spirit  refreshment and physical renewal.

I’ve saved you the effort of gathering some upcoming options in the Upper Delaware River region, so check them out, log them in and make those reservations. Shake off your winter weariness with a walk in our regional wonderland.

“The Biology of Fish,” Delaware Highlands Conservancy Van Scott Nature Reserve, Saturday, March 23 from 3p.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn all about fish and their anatomy, from the different species you might catch, to how they move and behave in the water. There is a fee of $5 for conservancy members or $10 for non-members. Children 12 and under are free and must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required see here:   delawarehighlands.org/events/biology-of-fish/ .

See more spring programming at https://delawarehighlands.org/events.

While there, seize the opportunity to walk the beautiful trails on the scenic 144-acre property in Beach Lake, PA. Note that neither dogs nor horses are allowed on the reserve. Visit: delawarehighlands.org/wp-content/uploads/Interpretive-Trail-Guide.pdf to view or download the interpretive trail guide.

“Woodcock Walk,” Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC), Sunday, March 24, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

If you’ve never experienced the spectacular springtime mating display of the American woodcock, make it your mission to do so during this walk at PEEC, located within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Dingmans Ferry, PA. PEEC also offers six loop trails of varying distance and difficulty, open to the public year round, from dawn to dusk. This program is free, with support provided by the William Penn Foundation. Visit www.peec.org/trails/ to learn more.

“Hike With a Forest Specialist,” Lacawac Sanctuary, Saturday, March 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Learn about the forests of Lacawac Sanctuary in Lake Ariel, PA, while guided by a Lacawac environmental educator and an experienced forest specialist from the Wayne County Conservation District. Identify diverse tree species while learning about the local ecosystem, invasive species and more.

The event is free, but registration is required at secure.qgiv.com/for/pafe/event/hikewithaforestspecialist/. See more spring programming at: www.lacawac.org/programs.html.

Naturally, one can also experience nature without a reservation. Line up your friends and family members or just go solo. Get out there and get some fresh air!
