The dangers of a Trump presidency

Posted

While I wish the Democrats had found a younger and more dynamic candidate, at least in a Biden administration we can be sure that Joe will surround himself with honest, intelligent, experienced staff and advisors who respect the Constitution and rule of law, as he did in his first term.

Trump, on the other hand, promises to kick out anyone who is not a “yes man.” He will spend precious time doling out retribution to anyone he does not like. He has little to no understanding of the Constitution or handling of U.S. secrets. His disdain for those who have served in the military is a disgrace.

Among a number of former Trump staff warning of another Trump presidency is former Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who says Trump is a “threat to democracy.” Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Kelly, says that Trump “has nothing but contempt for our democratic institutions, our Constitution and the rule of law.” These are people who saw Trump’s rule up close.

I suggest that those Republican officials who are flocking to Trump do this because he will be the front man and fall guy for their extreme agenda. And I suggest that they also fear retribution from Trump if they do not support him.
