Stream gages in the Upper Delaware Basin

NARROWSBURG, NY OR ONLINE — The Upper Delaware Council (UDC) will host a public presentation titled “USGS Streamgaging Networks: Funding, General Methodology and Data with a Focus on the Upper Delaware Basin” on Thursday, August 1 at 7 p.m. at the Upper Delaware Council office and virtually by Zoom.

The virtual speaker will be Guy Foster, chief of the New York Observing Systems Branch of the U.S. Geological Survey’s New York Water Science Center (WSC), based in Troy.

As a supervisory hydrologist, Foster oversees surface water, groundwater and water quality data collection and networks throughout New York State. He started with the USGS in 2007 and ultimately led the sediment science and sensor technology unit of the Kansas WSC from 2015-2018. He transferred to the New York WSC in 2018.

Prior to working at the USGS, Foster served as a submarine sonar technician in the U.S. Navy from 1993 to 2004. He holds a 2008 bachelor’s degree in oceanography from Hawaii Pacific University and a 2011 master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Kansas.

The UDC’s monthly business meeting will immediately follow. All UDC meetings are open to the public. The office is located at 211 Bridge St.
