Seniors rule in Bulldogs volleyball

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — On December 20, the Sullivan West Class of 2022 squared off against the Class of 2023, as the seniors took on the juniors in a senior class volleyball fundraiser.

At first, it looked like the 11th graders were out to teach the upperclassmen a lesson, as they outgunned the seniors 15-13 in the opening frame.

But then the tide turned, as several of the seniors showed up on the court after being recognized at the board of education meeting that was being held concurrently in the high school library.

With the added firepower from the scholar-athletes of the Class of 2022, the tide rapidly switched course as the seniors outpaced the juniors in the remaining games, 15-7, 15-5 and 15-9, to take the match 58-36.

According to the cadre of class advisors, the contest drew a crowd of over 100 attendees and raised several hundred dollars for the Class of 2022.

The event was organized by senior class advisors Dorothy Grecco, Katelyn Kelly and Kristina Verrico, along with junior class advisor Patti Norden.

“Because the senior and junior girls traditionally play a girls’ football game every year, the senior and junior boys wanted to create a boys’ volleyball game,” said Grecco, adding that because of the necessity to postpone the game due to quarantines, “The kids were so happy to finally play.”

Each class designed their own distinctive T-shirts to mark the occasion and invited family members to watch for a small donation.

“It was a great night, and the students enjoyed it so much, they are planning to do it again next year,” said Grecco.
