NARROWSBURG, NY — Everyone who approached the River Reporter’s booth at Riverfest was handed four “Riverbucks” and asked to vote: Which community issue would you invest in?

The 143 participants put their Riverbuck votes into labeled jars in the following categories:

  • The environment: Water, stormwater runoff, development, habitat—150
  • Health services: Accessibility, affordability, availability—123
  • Food: Affordability, accessibility, quality—107
  • Educational opportunities: Higher education, mentoring, training—69
  • Road safety: maintenance, improvements, signage, enforcement—68
  • Child care: Affordability, availability, accessibility—55

“Some people really had to think about it, or they had a hard time finding just four of their most favorites,” said Kathy Leggio, administrative assistant for the River Reporter, during Sunday’s festival.

Riverfest is an annual event hosted in Narrowsburg by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance. The event features a plethora of activities, including artisan vendors, live music, a kid’s corner, a benefit poster auction, the River Dogs parade and regional street theater.
