Project Weekend and the Main Street shuffle

Posted

Lately Main Street, Narrowsburg has felt like a volleyball game that’s rotating to change servers and bring in a new player.

Nest and Sunny’s Pop left the court. Tinker and Nidge moved into Sunny’s. Tess moved into the larger Nest space. Madama Fortuna took over the original Tess. The former Tinker and Nidge is now Project Weekend.

What is Project Weekend?

A quick interview with the owners, Chris Crowthers and Scott Eason, tells the story.

What inspired the store? Back in 2010 when Chris and I were just a few months into dating, he was doing “The Sound of Music” at the Ogunquit Playhouse.  I visited.  We popped into a shop in Kennebunkport called Daytrip Society.  We loved the shop.  Cute, fun, gifty stuff.  Chris bought a tiny harmonica on a chain.  I—always mixing up names—every time we talked about that shop, referred to it as Project Weekend.  “What was that cute store in Maine? Project Weekend?” I could never get it right.  But that name stuck with us, and we said someday let’s open a shop called Project Weekend.  But when, where and how?  Narrowsburg was not yet in our lives.  But we kept talking about it. By 2014 we were living life to the fullest and bought our home up here.  In 2015 we got married here. In 2018 we got really close to starting a shop but chickened out. Fast forward to today. We stopped chickening out and went for it!

Living through a pandemic has certainly taught us all something. Life is short. Don’t wait. Today, the tiny harmonica we bought in Maine is worn around our neck at the shop. A little lucky rabbit’s foot perhaps?

What are your favorite items in the store? Hardball question!  Scott loves the outdoor games from Elakai Outdoor—cornhole, ring toss, lawn bowling, paddle ball, croquet. Big fan of fun goods that get people together outdoors. All wood and beautiful. Chris loves the cozy clothing like our Work From Home robe from Together Textiles and our slippers from Kyrgies. Weekend essentials!

What’s been your proudest moment so far?  Opening the door!  That first weekend was exciting and nerve-wracking.  We’ve never done anything like this before. I worked in a retail mall store in high school. Chris had some retail background but nothing like this.

How did you first meet? Online dating! It works. We matched, met and married!

What are some of the buzzwords you’d use to describe Project Weekend?  Weekend goods for good weekends, focusing on men’s clothing and accessories plus outdoorsy and weekend-inspired goods.

Currently open Friday 12 noon to 5 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
