NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) will open its summer exhibitions, “Shadowlands” by photographer Geoffrey Hutchinson in the Alliance Gallery and “It’s All About Painting” by painter Johan Sellenraad in the Loft Gallery, beginning Saturday, July 1; there will be an opening reception on July 1 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

An artist’s talk with be held with Hutchinson on Saturday, August 5.

The artists’ works “explore the intersection of medium and meaning,” a spokesperson said.

The exhibitions will be on display until Sunday, August 6.

DVAA has extended summer hours this year: Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is open Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m.

The DVAA is located at 37 Main St.

Learn about fly fishing

LACKAWAXEN, PA — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission (PFBC) will hold a free Introduction to Fly Fishing program on Sunday, July 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Zane Grey Museum located at 135 Scenic Drive.

This four-hour program is designed for anyone aged 12 and older who is interested in learning the basics of fly-fishing (e.g. the equipment needed, knot tying, casting and more). Participants will receive hands-on instruction from PFBC staff and instructors from the National Park Service.

New daytime programs at WJFF Radio Catskill

LIBERTY, NY — WJFF Radio Catskill, public radio for the Catskills and Northeast Pennsylvania, announced a new daytime programming schedule beginning Monday, July 3.

The new lineup expands local news coverage to weekday mornings and adds new national and global news programs.

News talk show Radio Chatskill will expand from a weekly broadcast to a weekday one—Monday through Friday at 10 a.m.—showcasing more community news and information, a spokesperson said.

The station will also expand national and global news offerings on weekdays, adding the critically acclaimed programs “On Point” at 11 a.m., “The World” at 3 p.m. and “The Daily” at 6:30 p.m.

“The Local Edition,” the award-winning local news program, moves to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Other highlights include the addition of “Freakonomics” on Tuesday at 1 p.m. and “Radiolab” on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

There are new time slots for “Democracy Now!,” which will air weekdays at 12 noon, “Fresh Air” Monday through Thursday at 2 p.m. and “The TED Radio Hour” on Friday at 1 p.m.

Listeners will find new offerings on the weekends as well, such as “The New Yorker Radio Hour” and “Living Jazz.”

‘Decompositions’ at Farm Arts Collective

DAMASCUS, PA — Farm Arts Collective founding artistic director Tannis Kowalchuk will perform a new solo work titled “Decompositions” beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 1 and 2 at Farm Arts Collective.

The evening starts with an introduction and reading by author Darcey Steinke.

“Decompositions” is written and performed by Kowalchuk, and explores decomposition as a metaphor for life, a spokesperson said.

Kowalchuk, who has a long career in the theatre as well as her work as a farmer, has created an “original song-filled, multimedia performance that digs into birth, death, farming, art, decay (ageing) and transformation.”

Voice of Sullivan returns with Catskills News Talk

MONTICELLO, NY — Bold Gold Media Group has debuted its new local radio station, Catskills News Talk, on radio station 1240 WVOS-AM and on 92.5 FM and 94.9 FM.

The station will broadcast as the Voice of Sullivan and the Catskills, and will become the new home of the morning show “Ciliberto & Friends,” starring Paul Ciliberto.

This will form the backbone of the station’s programming, along with greatly expanded local news provided by news director Mike Sakell.

WVOS-AM, which was Sullivan County’s first radio station, last year celebrated its 75th anniversary.

“Taking a legacy AM radio station, and re-imagining it into an additional radio format in a local market is an exciting expansion of Bold Gold’s local broadcast portfolio,” said general manager Dawn Ciorciari. She called it “a testament to an incredible team of local broadcast professionals, a supportive community and the importance that local radio continues to have to provide local news, talk and information.”

 Popular radio shows covering a variety of topics including financial market updates, investing, lifestyle, health, politics, sports and others will round out the station’s programming.

Get a ‘Clue’ at the Forestburgh Playhouse

FORESTBURGH, NY — The Forestburgh Playhouse presents “Clue” on Tuesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 2 on its Main Stage; for hours, see below.

“Clue” is based on the board game and the 1985 movie about six guests entangled in a web of deceit, murder and blackmail.

Show hours are 8 p.m. on June 27 through July 1. June 28 also has a matinee at 2 p.m. and the July 2 show begins at 3 p.m.

Primetimers to visit New Paltz

MONTICELLO, NY — On Wednesday, July 12, the Primetimers of Temple Sholom will organize a guided tour of New Paltz; the tour bus will leave at 9:30 a.m. from the Temple Sholom parking lot.

Painting en plein air at Halfway Brook

ELDRED, NY and BARRYVILLE, NY — The Barryville Area Arts Alliance, partnering with Sullivan Public and Nonneta and Friends Creative, will host Plein Air Along the Brook, an outdoor community painting party held at three separate scenic locations along Halfway Brook from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 1. Artists of all skill levels are invited to come and paint at one of these three venues.

Participants should meet behind the Sunshine Hall Free Library, located at 14 Proctor Road. Artists can remain there, or proceed to the other locations.

A complimentary lunch will be provided courtesy of Il Costella Pizzeria & Ristorante at 12:30 p.m.

Art lovers and artists of all skill levels are invited to come and paint at one of these venues especially chosen for their scenic beauty. To showcase the work created on this day, an exhibit/reception is being planned a few weeks later.

Sullivan Public is located at 16 Proctor Rd. in Eldred. Nonneta and Friends Creative is located at 16 Old Brook Road in Barryville.

Learning to grow at Black Agriculture Weekend

FALLSBURG, NY — The Black Library will host its first Black Agriculture weekend on Saturday, July 1 at arts organization and residency Denniston Hill.

It is a full day of workshopping in collaboration with Denniston Hill. Local residents can learn how to start and maintain a garden, grow fruits and vegetables, harvest the bounty and learn how to prepare healthy fruits and vegetables.

Workshops will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and the community dinner takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
