Monticello HS Chamber Singers win second place

MONTICELLO, NY — The Monticello High School Chamber Singers have been awarded with a second place prize in the 2019 Music in the Parks festival held in Jackson, NJ at Six Flags Great Adventure. Music ensembles from all over the East Coast competed in the festival. This is the second year the Monticello Chamber Singers have won an award.

NYT crime columnist to give author talk

HONESDALE, PA — On Thursday, May 16 at 2 p.m., Friends of the Wayne County Public Library will host author, New York Times columnist, theater and literary critic Marilyn Stasio to present a talk, “Hard-boiled Dames: How Women Writers Changed the Crime and Mystery Novel.”

The author talk will take place at The Cooperage. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door, and all proceeds support the library. For more information, call the library at 570/253-1220.

Show love to a local trail

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — On Sunday, May 12 at 1 p.m., the public is invited to help improve the scenic Frick Pond Loop Trail to make it welcoming again for the season. Volunteers from the Willowemoc Trail Crew, under the auspices of the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference, will supply tools and on-site training. There are both rugged and light-duty tasks.

Bring water, snacks and work gloves, and wear long pants and comfortable footwear. Afterward, participants are invited to the Catskill Brewery for a complimentary beverage.

Moka Origins’ grant fuels expansion

HONESDALE, PA — On Monday, April 29, FedEx Corporation announced Moka Origins as a winner of the annual FedEx Small Business Grant contest. Over 13,000 businesses applied for the grant, and only 10 were selected as winners.

The “Bean-to-Bar” chocolate maker plans to use the grant to expand their coffee and chocolate manufacturing capacity and invest in environmentally friendly product packaging. They plan on opening their newly expanded factory to the public on Saturday, June 1, and will continue offering free walk-in Saturday tours and tastings from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Roots & Rhythm announces visual artist

HONESDALE, PA — Samuelle Green will be the Roots & Rhythm Music and Arts Festival’s featured visual artist. Green’s latest project, The Paper Caves, began at her studio/event space Basin and Main, and has since traveled to Jersey City, Brooklyn, Manhattan and art Basel in Miami.

Freedom to focus

HONESDALE, PA — Studies show that employees are interrupted 20 times per hour, and that it takes 17 minutes to recover from an interruption. On May 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the Stourbridge Project is offering a free presentation on how to focus, increase effectiveness and decrease frustration and burnout at work. Light refreshments will be provided.

The Great Wall of Honesdale welcomes fourth installation

HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance invites the public to the opening reception and celebration of the 2019 edition of The Great Wall of Honesdale on Saturday, May 11. An outdoor photo opportunity on Fourth and Main Streets will take place at 5 with a reception following from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Bodhi Tree. The opening of “Off the Wall,” an exhibit showcasing additional artworks, will also take place at the Bodhi Tree.

This year’s artists are David Barnett, Jane Biron, Pauline Glykokokalos, Evgeni Gordiets, Stacie Lynam, Monica Lynch, Lindell McElfresh, Brandi Merolla, Corey Rutledge, Connor Simon, Paul Venditti and Shaun Walsh.
