LIBERTY, NY — On Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m., the Liberty Public Library will present “How to Make a Canoe—from Scratch,” led by Callicoon Center resident Doug Woods.
Some years ago, Woods saw a beautiful handmade canoe and thought “Someday I want to make one of those.” So when his nephew announced his engagement, Woods decided a canoe would make the perfect wedding gift. He watched videos, read books and spoke to boat builders. Then he got underway. It would take over his life, his home and his family.
Woods will show photos of the process, talk about what he learned along the way, answer questions and give tips and advice for anyone interested in making their own (be aware, you’ll need a few months). The 16-foot canoe (on loan from the newlyweds) will be on display.
This free presentation will be held at the Liberty Public Library at 189 North Main St. For more information, call the library at 845/292-6070, email lib@rcls.org or visit www.libertypubliclibrary.org. Registration is encouraged.
