MILANVILLE, PA — Women across the mid-Atlantic region who own, care for or are interested in learning more about forestland are invited to apply now to attend the Women and Their Woods Educational Retreat; it takes place from September 15-18 at the Highlights Foundation workshop facility.

The application deadline is August 1.

The retreat is described as an in-depth, fun, engaging and thought-provoking workshop on caring for your woodlands now and into the future. No matter the size of your woodlands or if you’re not yet an owner, you can learn about good forest stewardship and meet others who care.

Workshops are led by resource professionals including staff from the Wayne County Conservation District, the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Keystone Trails Association, in addition to private consultants and legal experts.

Topics and activities in indoor and outdoor sessions include forest plant identification and forest ecology, forest stewardship, managing your land with children in mind, trail building and maintenance, conserving your land, estate and financial planning, and more.

This year it will be held at the Highlights Foundation workshop facility. Cabins and lodge rooms have modern facilities and wireless internet access. Farm-style meals are prepared by a chef and are a time for lively discussion. Snacks are always available for late-night or early morning sessions.

The cost to attend the four‐day retreat is $475 to $525 per person; this covers lodging for the three nights, three meals per day with snacks, and all workshop resources and materials. Commuter options for local attendees, costing $225 to $300, are also available and do not include overnight accommodations.
