September is looking good here in Honesdale. How good, you ask? Have you seen any event calendars? Take Here & Now, for instance. They’ve got something going on every weekend and then some. Two examples include a Mario Kart Tournament on Tuesday, September 24 and live music on Saturday, September 7 that leads into the second annual Canaltown Moving Movie Festival.

You may have seen me* write about the latter before. That’s because this festival was planned for and mentioned back in June but had to be rescheduled to this upcoming Saturday. Theater-specific sets of independent movies from all over the world and all around our area neighborhoods will play with repeating show times at three downtown theater locations: outdoors in Maude Alley behind Gather Honesdale, in the back room of Here & Now and inside RE/MAX’s front lobby.

The boundaries between town and festival will be blurred, as per the unwritten tenets of a shared festival-town experience. Check Canaltown’s website for details. Not into movies or looking for other things to fold into a cinematic Saturday? There’s also a daytime Wayne County farm tour departing from/returning to Honesdale (see www.seedsgroup.net). Transportation and lunch are provided.

The following weekend is a Second Saturday Honesdale, bringing art, music and assorted good times, including The Cooperage Project’s Tapestry Project exhibition; a community photo gallery show and compilation book sale/fundraiser. Steampunk Honesdale falls on that same day (September 14), bringing even more, partially gear-and-goggle-based, action to Main Street.

Dorflinger Sanctuary’s outdoor amphitheater is playing host to the Fall Music Festival on this second Saturday as well. While not quite in Honesdale, the historic glass factory village of White Mills (where the festival site is) sits about halfway between Honesdale and Hawley. The old D&H Canal line went through here, so requisite cross-promotional connections are in place. Looking ahead, anything happening between Hawley and Honesdale offers motivation for the trails being planned for connecting these boroughs.
