LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — Two hikers were rescued in Sullivan County by a ranger with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation’s (DEC) Division of Law Enforcement.

At 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, a staff member at Mongaup Pond State Campground in Livingston Manor notified Ray Brook Dispatch that two campers in their 40s failed to return to their campsite after a morning hike to Hodge Pond.

At 5:45 p.m., forest ranger Howard Kreft found the hikers and discovered that one had suffered an ankle injury. Because of the injury, Kreft walked the pair of hikers very slowly with down the trail.

At 9:40 p.m., more than six hours after they were reported missing, the hikers were safely back at the campground.
