HONESDALE, PA — Listen to any country song and likely you will hear something about a truck.

The American truck is an iconic symbol of the power of U.S. manufacturing and is integral to the economy as well as a regular means of transportation for many people—particularly those in rural areas.

The American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) is a nationwide nonprofit with a mission to preserve the history of the American trucking industry.

Visitors to the Wayne County Fairgrounds on Sunday, July 21 could see some of the impressive examples of vehicles owned by people and businesses in the region at the 15th annual exhibition by the American Truck Historical Society’s Upper Delaware Valley Truckers.

With behemoths such as the familiar Macks and Kenworths and mint examples of magnificent trucks, from companies that no longer exist to humble pickup trucks weathered by time and endless work, the event was a reminder of the powerful presence of trucks in our daily lives and as part of our cultural heritage.

On view were not just trucks but tractors and old cars—many of which are still actively used by businesses and individuals. There was a total of 95 vehicles on display under a bright blue sky at the historic fairgrounds.

“It was a fun event for family and friends to meet and enjoy a nice day out,” said Gene Mohrmann, president of the ATHS Upper Delaware chapter.

Visitors could participate in a 50/50 raffle, bid on gift baskets, and enjoy treats from Tubbys and ice cream from Creamworks Creamery Dairy Farm in Waymart.

Derek Rosencrance, whose family owns Northeast Towing, immediately donated his winnings in the 50-50 raffle back to the local ATHS.

Anyone interested in trucks is welcome to join ATHS at www.ATHS.org.

Find the local chapter on Facebook at Upper Delaware Valley Truckers.
