LAKE HUNTINGTON and ELDRED, NY — It wasn’t the best of seasons for either squad of varsity booters, as neither the Sullivan West Bulldogs nor the Yellowjackets of Eldred posted a winning record in 2022.
But on the positive side of the ledger during this post-pandemic season of high school sports, the players picked up the basics of soccer, honed their skills and practiced the art of good sportsmanship under the guidance of the upperclassmen and coaches.
Sullivan West (4-9), coached by Kristina Verrico, posted the following scores: September 1, 1-7 loss to Monticello; September 9, 0-7 loss to Fallsburg; September 14, 0-7 loss to Chester Academy; September 19, 0-8 loss to S. S. Seward Institute; September 21, 4-1 win over Eldred; September 23, 0-7 loss to Liberty; September 27, 0-9 loss to John S. Burke Catholic; September 29, 2-0 win over Tri-Valley; October 3, 0-8 loss to Seward; October 7, 4-0 win over Eldred; October 11, 0-7 loss to James I. O’Neill; October 14, 1-5 loss to Burke; and to close out the season on October 14, a 2-1 win over Tri-Valley.
Eldred, (0-13) coached by Josh Santoro, saw the following scores: September 1, 0-13 loss to Fallsburg; September 6, 0-2 loss to Port Jervis; September 9, 0-10 loss to James I. O’Neill; September 16, 0-9 loss to Chapel Field Christian; September 21, 1-4 loss to Sullivan West; September 26, 0-4 loss to John S. Burke Catholic; September 27, 12-4 loss to Tri-Valley; September 28, 0-9 loss to S.S. Seward Institute; October 3, 0-4 loss to Chapel Field; October 7, 0-4 loss to Sullivan West; October 18, 1-9 loss to Seward; October 20, 1-7 loss to Port Jervis and on October 21, a 1-5 loss to Tri-Valley.
