Beginner farmer program events this spring

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — The Beginner Farmer Program at Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (Sullivan CCE) has classes and events coming up this year on a variety of topics; the program is open to folks at all levels of farming.

Farmer mixer at Upward Brewing Company

All are invited for an evening of conversation and community with folks from our farming community on Thursday, February 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Upward Brewing Company, 171 Main St., Livingston Manor. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Agricultural funding series

Beginning farmers can learn about the variety of funding opportunities out there for agricultural businesses. Classes are held on Zoom, and speakers come from different agricultural organizations. If you can’t attend, the classes are recorded and posted to YouTube at Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County.

Class Three, Thursday, March 14 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.—General funding opportunities

Class Four, Date and time TBA—Features a speaker from NYS Grown & Certified 

Marketing series

All are invited to explore the magic of marketing. There are tips on utilizing marketing tools, how to develop a marketing plan, and how a farmer uses marketing to create a successful farm business. 

At each session, the presenters will share information with participants, and there will be time allocated for a Q&A for the participants.

Registration is open, and the classes are held on Zoom, with an option to watch at Sullivan CCE, located at 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd. in Liberty. If you plan to attend in person, email Taylor Adam at tea46@cornell.edu or call 845/292-6180 ext. 130.
