Lake Huntington News 6/14
Did you miss me? Did you even notice my column didn’t go up online last week?
On Saturday, June 2 I was at my niece Lisa’s wedding to her new husband Trevor. I was not feeling very well. I could not stop coughing, and I was spending too much time in the bathroom. I had my special dance with Lisa—yes, it was “Come on Eileen.” I left and went home coughing all the way; when my sister came home she found me on the side of the bed throwing up and not being able to breathe. She got me in the car and off to Grover Hermann Hospital. There I got a chest X-ray, blood test and IV. I had a fever of 102.1. When the results of all the tests came back, my lactic-acid level was elevated, and they were thinking it might be sepsis. So it was off to CRMC in an ambulance for me. That was quite an experience, getting lifted up into the ambulance. I just asked the two nice guys, “Please, don’t drop me.” The first thing I had done at Harris was a CAT scan that showed pneumonia in my upper right lung.
I have to tell you what a great hospital CRMC is; I had the very best care, from the house cleaning staff to the nurses to the doctors’ excellent health care. I had breathing treatments every four hours, lots of blood tests and all different kinds of meds. All of the staff was very polite professional and downright kind. They knocked on the door, said who they were and what they were there for. The dietician educated me on carbs and how to choose food for my three meals. The food was really good; I need to make Jell-o at home; I really enjoyed it.
Boomer, the vice president of patient services chief nursing officer, stopped in to see me to make sure everything was OK. It gives me great pleasure to tell him he has an A-plus staff. All the medicine in the world cannot make you feel any better than having visits from my two favorite nurses, Jamie Meyer and Erika Crocitto; these ladies keep me laughing. I would like to give a very big “thank you” to all of the staff on 2 West, and for all the visits, cards and phone calls and Facebook posts.
