DELAWARE VALLEY SCHOOL DISTRICT — On Wednesday, May 2, the Delaware Valley (DV) Music Department Booster Club awarded its first ever summer scholarships. To be eligible, one had to be a DV student in any grade, in any school, who participates in music and attended a music-related camp or program over the previous summer. Even current seniors were eligible. Four scholarships of up to $500 were awarded.

This year’s recipients were Theodore Russell Bookey, 11th-grader, who took his trumpet to Philadelphia to attend a two-week Creative Jazz Institute at The Kimmel Center and the University of the Arts (second from left); John Michael Zirpoli, eighth-grader, who played both drums and keyboard at the School of Rock Chatham Legends of Rock Performance Camp (third from left); Josephine Marie Allen, senior, who traveled all the way to Alaska to play her viola with the Kenai Peninsula Orchestra (fourth from left); and Jennifer Yulfo, ninth-grader, who attended Marywood University’s Camp Crescendo on tuba and Camp Crescendo Jazz on trombone (fifth from left). At left is Elizabeth M. Lukan, DV Music Dept. Booster Club secretary and treasurer; and at extreme right is Deborah Hoerst, member of the DV Music Department booster club scholarship committee.
