NARROWSBURG, NY — Winter’s coming; Tusten’s ready. At its November 4 meeting, the Tusten Town Board (including injured Jane Luchsinger, who participated via Skype from her hospital bed) addressed winter road closures and restrictions as well as Little Lake Erie winter restrictions. The board also discussed improvements to the community hall designed specifically to upgrade living conditions in the town’s only public storm shelter.

Two new community hall restrooms are currently in the design phase; one will be ADA compliant. The other, space permitting, will include a stall shower for the convenience of those requiring multi-day shelter during severe storms or prolonged power outages. They will be equipped with energy-efficient on-demand hot water heaters.

A new community hall stove with grill is due to be delivered in two weeks, by which time the board will decide if a new hood is required, or if the current hood, only a few years old, can be repaired and adapted to work with the new stove.
Town clerk Crystal Weston said bids for installation of emergency town and community-hall generators will be opened at the board’s next regular meeting on November 12, the winning electrical contractor to be selected thereafter.
The following roads will be closed between December 1, 2019 and April 1, 2020, per provision of Highway Law 205: Irishtown Road—end of blacktop to bottom of Smith-Hughes; Deep Hollow Road—from Lackawaxen Road and Cochecton Turnpike to second house near County Road 22; Cochecton Turnpike—from Mahls Pond Road to State Highway 97 to Ten Mile River Road #10; Tusten Road—from State Highway 97 to Stone Arch Bridge to railroad tracks; Blind Pond Road—from Whippoorwill Hunting Club to the town line.

Weight restrictions will apply to roads in danger of sustaining damage from winter weather conditions. Trucks in excess of 10 tons will be prohibited from the following roads November through April: Ackerman; Blind Pond; Brook Road; Buddenhagen; Cochecton Turnpike; Crawford; Daub; Dexheimer; Evergreen; Francis Drive; Grassy Swamp; Hoffman; Humphrey; Lackawaxen; Irishtown; Mahl’s Pond; New Weiden; Parker; Perry Pond; Ryer; Schalck; Swamp Pond; Trout Pond A&B; and Wood Oak.
From November 1, 2019 to April 1, 2020, snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and cars will be prohibited from Little Lake Erie.

A zoning board of appeals public hearing regarding mass gatherings and noise is scheduled for November 19 at 6:30 p.m.
