Hello! My name is Scott Mace and I am running for re-election as Thompson councilman. Serving as your councilman the last eight years, I am the only candidate with any town board experience. I was also appointed deputy supervisor the last two years by the board. I have been a pharmacist in the community for almost 30 years, including 15 years as owner of Rock Hill Pharmacy before selling this spring. Though I still work there a couple days a week, I look forward to doing more work as your councilman.

Our town is doing very well. We have reduced taxes the last four years and next year’s budget is shaping up for another 5 percent cut. The casino revenues we have realized are being used mainly for non-recurring expenses such as plow trucks, a wheel loader and upgrades to our parks. Recently completed projects in the Thompson Town Park include a two-mile easy walking trail through the woods, a gazebo and a pergola to relax under down by the stream. A new pavilion is being built now and we plan to replace the bathrooms next year.

The study for the new park in Rock Hill is in its final stages. This 142-acre property has endless potential including trails, ball fields, community center, as well as swimming and boating on the lake. Code enforcement continues to be a priority in Thompson. We have had over 90 unsafe structures taken down, with another 220 on our list. We are continuing to work on our many beautification projects. These code enforcement and beautification efforts were recognized this year by Sullivan Renaissance with their top award of the $250,000 Golden Feather Award.

This year we completed a study of the water and sewer infrastructure facilities in all of our 17 districts. This will enable us to prioritize upgrading and replacement projects in our facilities before there is a problem.

We have more big plans for 2020. We are studying shared services programs with both the county and village to save expenses and taxpayer money. We are also planning to update the town comprehensive plan, not done since the ‘90s, which is a guide for the future of the Town of Thompson. We are replacing the town streetlights with LEDs to save money. We will then own the fixtures and be able to repair them when they are out without having to wait on a utility company.
