MIDDLETOWN, NY — The 2019 concert season at SUNY Orange opens on Sunday, January 27 at 3 p.m. with “The American String Quartet in Concert with pianist Vadim Serebryany, selections by Ravel, Dvorak and Tsontakis.”
Works by this eclectic mix of composers includes a quartet, a quintet and solo piano pieces that demonstrate the versatility and virtuosity of the musicians. This year also marks the 45th anniversary of the American String Quartet. Violinist Laurie Carney, who is the only original member, currently plays with violinist Peter Winograd, violist Daniel Avshalomov and cellist Wolfram Koessel.
The American String Quartet (ASQ) has come to this Middletown stage several times as well as concert halls in Europe, Asia, South America, Canada, all of the 50 states and in many venues in New York City, where the quartet is based. ASQ is the resident quartet at the Manhattan School of Music and the Aspen Music Festival.
Tickets cost $15 for adults and $10 for senior citizens, faculty, staff and alumni. They will be available in the box office starting at 2 p.m. the day of the concert. Tickets purchased online can be printed at home or picked up at the box office. Free to all students, but they must pick up tickets at the box office starting one hour before concert time.
