The Shohola Township Board of Supervisors passed its new budget on December 8 with no increase in property taxes. The vote was unanimous. “There were no cuts in personnel nor in services again this year,” said George Fluhr, chairman.

Millage for the township stood at 9.25, while the millage for the fire company was 1.75, the same as last year. “We’re in very good shape,” said supervisor Nelia Wall.

The total expenditure in the new budget is $799,613. Total assets that will carry over to next year are $111,299.

In other actions, the board was granted an extension of the Subdivision and Land Use Development Ordinance amendment from the Pike County Commissioners until April 31, 2012.

“This is necessary to keep the township’s ordinances on things like storm water management and other regulations regarding land use in coordination with our comprehensive plan,” Fluhr said.

The board also passed a resolution supporting the National Guard and Reserves that assures returning veterans of their old jobs back or of an equivalent job.

Also, the Safe Haven Wish Tree program last year was so successful that the board agreed to support it again this year. Various Shohola residents and staff members helped provide over 100 toys and clothing for the children of domestic violence.

“Safe Haven has asked us to participate again this year,” Fluhr said. “We encourage residents to come help us provide a holiday for the children of Pike County.”

The board will hold its reorganization meeting for 2012 on January 3 at 1 p.m. with the regular monthly meeting immediately following.
