KINGSTON, NY — The Rural Ulster Preservation Company, now known as RUPCO, has promoted Jake Michels to the newly created position of Vice President of Portfolio Management. RUPCO is a nonprofit that leads the region in creating and maintaining affordable housing.
Michels has been with RUPCO since August 2017, originally as the director of property management before his promotion to assistant vice president for operations. He brings over five years of housing managing experience with a track record of increasing efficiency in portfolio expansion.
“I am excited to be here, to be a part of RUPCO’s mission and creating homes for those in need. Since coming to RUPCO in 2017, we have improved processes within the property management department [that oversees building maintenance, tenant relations and leasing] while investing in the development of our staff. Developing a 'team first' mentality is something that has been a focus of mine since I started. I look forward to helping our communications and real estate departments achieve similar efficiencies this year,” Michels stated. “Home matters because it’s the foundation of our lives. Stable housing allows you to progress in all other areas, and allows you to progress as an individual.”
According to a press release, “In 2018, RUPCO celebrated the opening of East End Apartments, 44 rental homes for those of modest means in 15 historically renovated buildings in Newburgh’s historic district. RUPCO also began construction on Energy Square, a $20-million, Net-Zero-for-Living development with 57 mixed-income apartments and 10,000 square feet of commercial space in midtown Kingston. Established in 1981, and a NeighborWorks America chartered member since 1999, RUPCO ushers community wealth-building opportunities, much-needed housing, and strong strategic partnerships into communities eager for change.”
