MONTICELLO & LIBERTY, NY — New York State Police at Liberty, working with the Sullivan County Department of Social Services Welfare Fraud Unit, arrested two Sullivan County residents after investigating two separate cases involving the filing of false public benefits applications.
On October 28, police arrested Eulogio Pinto, age 45, of Monticello. Pinto is accused of filing an application for public benefits that contained false information.
On October 29, police arrested Matthew Smith, age 27, of Liberty. Smith is accused of filing an application for public benefits that contained false information.
Smith and Pinto were charged with the felony of Offering a False Instrument for Filing in the first degree. Both were arraigned in the Town of Liberty Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail with no bail set.
