Waning winter days
HAWLEY, PA — This Cedar Waxwing, with a crab apple in its beak, was part of a small flock in downtown Hawley a week ago. The birds travel in flocks—some overwintering here, and some now arriving from the south. Waxwings also enjoy running water as in the Lacawaxan River Park where Mary Keene saw this one.
NPS to close River Road on rainy evenings to protect breeding amphibians
BUSHKILL, PA — The National Park Service will close River Road within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area on several evenings throughout the next few weeks to protect breeding amphibians. Forecasts calling for evening rain with mild temperatures within the 50s will result in the road closing at 4 p.m. until 6:30 a.m. the next morning, as amphibians are primarily active at night. The piece of River Road that will close is in Middle Smithfield Township from NPS headquarters to Hialeah Picnic Area.
For more information and updates on road closures, call park headquarters at 570/426-2452, visit www.nps.go/dewa, or follow on Facebook at www.facebook.com/delwatergapnps.
