An absolute sure sign of spring is the annual Plant Swap and Bake Sale sponsored by the Narrowsburg Beautification Group (NBG). This year the sale will be Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the mews, and provides you with an opportunity to obtain plant material to fill in those blank spots in your garden, or create a new garden, at no cost at all. Just bring what you have in abundance and take away a new garden gem. If you are starting fresh and don’t have anything to swap, but you are looking for some proven plant material, have no fear: the plant swap is the place to pick up what grows best in our area. Choose what you wish to plant and leave a donation.

After a long day of garden work, it seems appropriate to reward yourself with a home-baked goodie. This annual event has got you covered there as well. The money raised from this sale goes toward beautification projects throughout our town.

The NBG has been awarded Sullivan Renaissance grants for over 12 years. Each year the NBG decides on a new project it feels will enhance the aesthetics of our town. A few of the former projects are the spring-blooming pear trees on Bridge Street, the stone planters around the welcome signs on Bridge Street, the stone planter at the library and planting and maintaining Tusten Veterans Memorial Park. The NBG works with the Main Street merchants to plant the planters on the deck and other areas on Main Street. The efforts of the NBG have received numerous awards from Sullivan Renaissance through the years and each of us is rewarded every year as we enjoy their work.

Another important reminder: don’t forget to bring your trash to the highway department for the annual Town Clean-up Day on the morning of Saturday, May 31.
