A strange occurrence happened on Main Street on Sunday, June 22. A six-year-old girl was tugging at her mother’s hand, looking, almost frantically, for something. I happened to be sitting on the bench in front of the Signatures Gift shop at Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) and asked if I could help. The mother looked at me, a bit bewildered, and said they were looking for the place her daughter had been the day before when she was out with her father. “Where was that?” I inquired. The young girl sheepishly replied something about flowers. We have lots of flowers on Main Street so I was a bit perplexed. Then she said, “inside flowers.” I opened the door and said, “You must mean ‘Art in Bloom.’” She peeked around the door and once she spotted the stairway to the second floor, she smiled, jumped up and said, “That’s it!” and tugged at her mother again. Off they went up the stairs to view “Art in Bloom.” (“Art in Bloom” is an exhibit of floral arrangements created to interpret a particular piece of art work. Both the floral arrangements and the art works are displayed.) After viewing the show, the young girl looked satisfied as her mother expressed her pleasure for coming to Narrowsburg this morning. Her mother explained that the young girl kept talking about the exhibit yesterday urging her mother to see it. With what appeared to be little time available in their schedule for the day, they managed to squeeze in the visit and happily left DVAA chatting about the flowers. It was absolutely refreshing to experience a child insisting a parent view an art exhibit. You just never know what happens on Main Street.

Reminders: The July 4th fireman’s parade will be at 3 p.m., followed by take-out chicken barbeque and fireworks at dusk. The rain date is Sunday, July 6.
