Press release: Members of the Monticello police arrested Unique Q. Junior, age 20, of Liberty on Saturday 12/22/18. Junior was charged with felonies for attempted robbery in the 1st degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the 2nd degree and criminal use of a firearm in the 2nd degree. Junior was arrested as a result of an investigation into an attempted armed robbery that occurred on Thursday 12/20/18 at 6:00 PM in front of the “Eagle Plaza” on Forestburg road in the Village of Monticello.

Junior and another male accomplice attempted to rob another male of his cellular phone, after the victim had arranged a meeting through the APP “LETGO”, in order to sell the phone. During the arranged meeting, Junior displayed what appeared to be a firearm and attempted to rob the victim of his phone.  Junior was arrested on Saturday 12/22/18 at 3:20 PM while he was walking on Pine Street in the Village of Monticello after Monticello PO John Calvello Jr recognized him from surveillance footage of the attempted robbery.

Junior was arraigned before Acting Village of Monticello Justice Leo Glass and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail on $50,000.00 bail pending further court action. An investigation is ongoing for the second suspect involved in the attempted robbery. New York State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff Deputies also assisted in the arrest of Junior. Anyone who may have information about this incident can call Monticello Police in confidence at 845-794-4422 or 845-791-TIPS.
