NARROWSBURG, NY — On Saturday, June 22, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance held a lively opening reception for two shows that each explore the history of the region in different ways.

As a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, “Made in 1969” features works made in 1969 and also pieces made by artists who were born in 1969. Ariel Shanberg, DVAA’s executive director, said of the exhibit, “Art is a primary resource for history. Like with any anniversary, you want to look back and also think of the future. So we thought to include artists who were working in 1969, but also artists who were born in 1969. The year you were born in shapes your identity.”

“Bungalow” is an exhibit curated by Elizabeth Ennis, a video and film artist. The exhibit includes work from 14 different artists across different mediums—paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations and films—to revisit these structures that, now abandoned, used to prop up the Golden Age of the Catskills. “For the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock, this is perfect,” Ennis said. “The bungalow theme is very close to my heart, I’ve been trespassing in Sullivan County for 27 years to find these things.”
