PORT JERVIS, NY — The Public Computer Center (The Hub) at The Port Jervis Free Library will host Nathaniel Whitmore for an introduction to herbal medicine on Thursday, June 12 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The “Basics of Herbal Medicine” program will be held in the Community Room, which has a capacity of 50.
Learn about the basics of herbal medicines, including wild herbs, herbs from the garden and herbs from the store. Class will cover herb selection, preparation and use.
Whitmore has studied wildcrafting and medicine making (especially tinctures) throughout his education and professional work, much of which involves sharing what he has learned with others.
In order to preserve tradition and develop a more thorough understanding of local wild herbs, Whitmore focuses much of his study time on ethnobotany and botany (also mycology), as he believes that Native American traditions still have much to offer the modern world and that a truly holistic system of medicine must utilize local herbs.
