Free children’s summer lunch program

HONESDALE, PA — Starting on Monday, June 17, The Cooperage Project, in collaboration with the Wayne Highlands School District, will open its doors Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for children ages 18 and under to receive free lunch. No income requirements are necessary to sign up. In addition to lunch, there will be arts and crafts, story time, music and more.

New event venue hosts open house

PLEASANT MOUNT, PA — Equestrian House© is a new events venue for corporate events and meetings, family reunions, weddings, celebrations and spiritual retreats. To showcase the space, it’s hosting an open house on Thursday, June 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. Live music, kids’ activities and other entertainment will add to the event.  Catering companies with food to sample for your next event will also be there.

LVSC seeks bookshop clerks and tutors

SULLIVAN COUNTY, NY — Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County (LVSC) is looking for volunteers to work at its bookstores, Read It Again in Monticello and Past Perfect in White Lake.

For those interested in tutoring, online training is provided, and you tutor when it is convenient for you.

‘Chicken Soup for the Despairing Unitarian Soul’

BEACH LAKE, PA — On Sunday, June 16 at 10:15 a.m. at the Berlin Township Community Center, Art Kolbjornsen will lead a discussion on the topic of “Chicken Soup for the Despairing Unitarian Soul (just in case there is one).”  In light of some of the discouraging events and divisions in the world today, attendees will have a chance to focus on and share recollections of special moments when everything seemed to be heading in the right direction.

‘Last Night’ recital

MONTICELLO, NY — Monticello Central School District’s annual music program recital, “Last Night,” will take place on Monday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m. in the high school’s Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium. This annual performance showcases Monticello High School’s chamber instrumentalists and soloists, as well as its chamber singers and solo vocalists.  The event is free of charge for the public.

Helping homeowners protect clean water

MILFORD, PA — Pike County Conservation District will host a free workshop titled “Homeowner Tips to Protect Clean Water” on Thursday, June 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Dingman Township Fire Hall located on 680 Log Tavern Rd. Complimentary coffee and donuts will be provided, and the event will include a raffle.

Topics will include how to manage invasive plants; landscaping for a healthy environment including the proper use of pesticides, insecticides and fertilizers; attracting pollinators; using rain barrels; and how to install a rain garden.

‘In the Footsteps of Lewis and Clark’

HONESDALE, PA — Growing Older Together (GOT) will host a presentation, “In the Footsteps of Lewis and Clark,” on Wednesday, June 19, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce community room located at 32 Commercial St. The event is free and open to all.

In 2018, GOT volunteers Bill and Wilma Bogertman commemorated the 1803–1806 Lewis and Clark Expedition by traveling 11,000 miles across the USA. They will share stories about their eight-week journey, provide historical context to the legacy of Thomas Jefferson’s 1803 Louisiana Purchase, and reveal the beauty of the American landscape.
