According to Wayne County Coroner Edward Howell, a fatal car accident took place in the early morning hours of Saturday, January 9. The coroner's office was dispatched at 2:59 a.m. to the scene on Callicoon Road in Damascus Township near the New York State border. The crash took the life of 19-year-old Joseph Anthony Ducey. There were no passengers or other drivers involved in the accident.
Reportedly, the crash occurred at around 2 a.m. when Ducey's car struck a tree along the edge of the roadway. Howell arrived on scene at 4:20 a.m. with senior death investigator Carol Lienert and chief deputy coroner Mark James. Upon examination, the decedent was pronounced dead at 4:23 a.m.
Ducey resided at home with his family in Damascus.
An autopsy conducted the following day determined the cause of death to be blunt head and neck trauma due to motor vehicle accident; manner of death was ruled accidental.
Pennsylvania State Police at Honesdale are also investigating the fatal crash.
