LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — All three beers entered by Catskill Brewery for judging at this year’s annual TAP-NY Craft Beer and Food Festival in Hunter took home medals. In the Sour Beer category, Eye of Newt, a Flanders Red Ale, took the gold medal. The brewery describes the beer as “barrel-aged and indulgent—a delicate, delicious version of this classic style.” In the Light/dark/strong Lagers category, Ball Lightning Pilsner, a Czech-style pilsner, took the silver medal. The brewery says it is “a crisp, clean lager with bright, accessible flavor that culminates in a satisfying Saaz hop bite at the finish.” In the Strong Belgian Ales category, Freak Tractor Wild Ale was awarded bronze. “Freak Tractor is made with 100% Brettanomyces yeast, and delivers a unique combination of earthy notes and a hint of tropical fruit.” The brewery’s tasting room at 672 Old Rte. 17 sells beer by the glass, growler and keg. Environmentally conscious, it has recently been awarded LEED Gold certification.
