If I had any fear I was being too harsh with my reaction to the Lumberland zoning rewrite process, it evaporated when I participated in Tusten’s public rewrite meeting last week. Clear lines of elected authority, a professional and experienced planner (who was also respectfully dressed, unlike Lumberland’s free attorneys), an informative discussion on how all comments would be catalogued and reviewed, and just a sense that the meeting was about important public comment that can better the document—not about a technicality and inconvenient roadblock on the path to “we know best” approval.
Well done Tusten. I was impressed. It was model for other towns for sure.
