ROSCOE, NY — Fred Ahart has been selected as this year’s recipient of the “Amazing Person Award for Coaching” by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. The award will be presented in a ceremony at the Turning Stone Convention Center in Verona on Thursday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. The ceremony is open to the public at no cost. No reservations are needed.
“Coach” Fred Ahart began his career at Roscoe Central School in 1969 after earning his B.S. Degree from Ithaca College, where he also earned his Master’s Degree in 1973. He has been the school’s athletic director from 1969 to present (50th year). He has served as the varsity boys’ basketball coach from 1969 to the present (beginning his 50th year at the time of the awards presentation). He has been the Roscoe Central School head football coach from 1979 to the present (40 years) after serving from 1969 to 1978 as an assistant coach (10 years), for a total of 50 years coaching football at Roscoe Central School. In 2014, the Roscoe Central School gymnasium was named the “Coach” Fred Ahart Gymnasium.
