10,000 Maniacs at Milford Theater

MILFORD, PA — 2021 marked the 40-year anniversary of the launch of the band 10,000 Maniacs.

And now the band is on tour again. 10,000 Maniacs will perform at the Milford Theater at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 10.

Founded in 1981 in Jamestown, NY, the band is still anchored by four out of six of the original members: Steven Gustafson, Dennis Drew, John Lombardo and Jerry Augustyniack. Former backup singer Mary Ramsey sings lead vocals. She took over after founding lead singer Natalie Merchant left in 1993 to pursue a solo career. Ramsey also plays violin and viola, which added another dimension to the group, a press release said.

Founding member Robert Buck passed away in 2000 and was replaced by his longtime tech Jeff Erickson, who has been the Maniacs’ guitarist for 19 years.

The band is primarily known for its alt-rock sound. Its critically acclaimed breakout album, “In My Tribe,” was included in Rolling Stone’s “100 Best Albums Of The Eighties.” In 1993, 10,000 Maniacs performed on MTV’s “Unplugged”; the released recording of that show would go on to sell millions of copies.

All told the band has sold over 10 million albums, with eight Billboard Hot 100 singles.

“I’m thrilled to be out and playing with my best friends again,” said keyboardist Dennis Drew. “I feel rejuvenated… I know what I have… a strong and loving family at home and a strong and loving, creative and exciting family on stage.”

The band is working on a new studio album.

The Milford Theater is located at 114 E. Catharine St.

Doors for the concert open at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show cost $65 per person. They can be purchased at https://bit.ly/3NZoF4h.
