Smallwood man arrested for DWI
On Friday December 8, 2017 at about 11:30 PM, a special holiday DWI patrol from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gerard T. Niero, age 28, of Smallwood, NY.
Niero was stopped on State Route 55 in Bethel when his vehicle was observed swerving. After failing the field sobriety test, Niero was charged by sheriff’s deputies with Felony DWI due to a prior conviction in 2014. The suspect was released to appear in the Town of Bethel court at a later date.
Sheriff Mike Schiff reminds the public that extra patrols will be out this holiday season looking for intoxicated drivers who put people’s lives at risk. The patrols are being funded by Sullivan County’s STOP DWI program. “Don’t take a chance”, said the Sheriff. “If you go out drinking, have a plan to get home safe”.
