WURTSBORO, NY — The Democratic Women of Sullivan County (DWSC) elected the group’s 2017 slate of officers at its recent annual reorganization meeting. By unanimous voice vote, the members attending elected Fallsburg Attorney Maria O. Zeno to serve as the group’s president, Janet Lybolt as Vice President and Gail Arsenault as secretary. The group also unanimously re-elected Debra Holt-Gabriel as treasurer.

Acknowledging that many of the 50 attendees in the room participated in the Women’s March on Washington on January 21, Zeno—herself a parent of a teen daughter—asked the attendees to “encourage our daughters to get involved and to teach them to get used to standing up and fighting for their rights and fighting for what is right for all people.”

Prior to the reorganization vote, the meeting featured guest speakers including Pat O’Dwyer, president of the New York State Federation of Democratic Women, Fran Fox-Pizzonia, vice president of public affairs for Planned Parenthood, and Gladys Figueroa, president of the Ulster County Democratic Women. Photographer Rich Klein, who photographed the Women’s March on Washington, produced and displayed a slideshow of images from the trip.

The DWSC is an independent organization committed to finding, nurturing and supporting qualified Democratic women to be candidates for political office in all levels of government.
