BBQ celebrates Master Gardeners

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, NY — Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC) is celebrating its Master Gardener volunteers at the annual Cornell Country BBQ & Live Auction, to be held Saturday, September 15, at the White Sulphur Springs Fireman’s Park on Shore Road. This event is rain or shine, under a covered pavilion. Chicken has been donated by Hudson Valley Foie Gras.

Cornell University’s recipe for barbequed chicken goes back to 1955. This recipe, used for many Sullivan County chicken barbeque fundraisers, is famous for its simple ingredients and bold flavor. The traditional preparation method includes slow grilling chicken halves, basted in layers of the “secret” sauce.

The public can take out the farm-fresh dinner from 4 to 5:30 p.m., or sit down at 5:30 p.m. to enjoy an old-fashioned, outdoor evening of live Americana music by Little Sparrow, 50/50 drawings, and live and silent auctions of homemade and home-grown items from the Hudson Valley beginning at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets cost $20 per person. Walk-ins welcome. Non-refundable payment can be made in advance online at www.sulliv ancce.org, over the phone at 845/292-6180, or at the Liberty office at 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd.

Proceeds from the Cornell Country BBQ & Live Auction fundraiser will go toward providing education and technical assistance to farmers, families and youth across diverse audiences in Sullivan County. Additional donations for CCESC programs are appreciated.
