Riverfest: a celebration of music, art and ecology

NARROWSBURG, NY — If it’s mid-July on the Upper Delaware, you know that Riverfest is just around the bend. It’ll be here this weekend, on Sunday, July 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Narrowsburg’s Main Street from Bridge Street to 5th Street, the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) event features artisan craft booths, live music, kids activities, and much more attracting far-flung visitors with a full day of art and activities surrounded by breathtaking scenery. The event is free and takes place rain or shine.

The day starts off at 10 a.m. with the return of “River Dogs on Parade.” Emceed by Kevin McDonough, who will be providing colorful commentary, this is a don’t-miss opportunity for your pup to strut its stuff before a panel of judges and jubilant crowd. Register in advance ($10) by calling DVAA at 845/252-7576, or sign up the morning of Riverfest in front of Narrowsburg Feed & Grain starting at, 9 a.m.

This year’s Riverfest will feature over 40 artists booths, seven information booths, a Kids Korner including face painting by Joyce Prince, a food court and live music ranging from folk and bluegrass to rock, jazz and reggae. In light of the building fire that took place this May in Rassmussen’s Furniture Store, The DVAA has created the “Riverfest Village,” a clustered section of vendor booths capped off by a pop-up version of Pinks Restaurant, which will be serving tacos. Around 12 p.m, Riverfest attendees will be able to experience a special performance by NACL’s Stilt-walkers.

And of course there is  the perennial favorite, the poster auction. It will take place at 12:30 p.m. on the main stage. It has become a “can’t miss” tradition and community favorite. Over five-dozen original, one-of-a-kind posters created by local artists, will be sold in a live public auction to the highest bidder. Auctioneer Tony Staffieri will get the bidding going. Artworks will be on display in DVAA’s gallery window. You can preview works online at the above contact URL.

Frontier Communications provides free Wi-Fi hot spots throughout Main Street for visitors and vendors alike. Look for the Wi-Fi networks “FrontierCommunications FreeWiFi”.
