CALLICOON, NY — A group of artists will be painting along the Delaware River in Callicoon on the night of May 12.

“It’s not as crazy as it sounds," says Alexis Siroc, the event coordinator. “Vincent van Gogh and Georgia O’Keeffe were just two of the many great artists who believed that the night can be just as alive with light and color as daytime.” Siroc is also co-curating a show this July with Alan Woods called “Night Watch” at the Loft Gallery in Narrowsburg.

“Plein Air la Nuit” is one of three plein air painting parties sponsored by the Barryville Area Arts Association, and the only one to be held at night. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome to participate. Art supplies and an on-site facilitator will be available; refreshments and a light meal are provided.

All artwork created is eligible to be displayed at four receptions at sites around Sullivan County including the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor and Sunshine Studios in Barryville. Participation in these exhibits and receptions is free to those who register for the nighttime painting party.

This project is made possible with funds from the 2017 Arts for Sullivan Decentralization Program administered by the Delaware Valley Arts Association.
