WAYMART, HAWLEY and HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne Choralaires, which celebrated their 50th anniversary last year, return with a summer schedule that will include an additional venue, the Ladore Conference Center in Waymart on Thursday, June 21, at 7:30 p.m.; and a new subgroup, Choralaires Select, which will perform during intermission. The concert, titled “Sing! Sing!” will emphasize American music and will be under the leadership of the Choralaires’ new director, Betsy Black, and accompanied by Cindy Robbins at the keyboard. Concerts will also take place on Sunday, June 24, at 6 p.m. at Queen of Peace Church in Hawley; and Monday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Central Park in Honesdale, presented by the Wayne County Creative Arts Council.

The concert begins with the national anthem, and will include William L. Dawson’s African-American spiritual “Ain-a That Good News!,” a Mark Hayes arrangement of the folk song “Billy Boy” and a John Rutter arrangement of the traditional American song “Down by the Riverside,” among other pieces.

At intermission, Choralaires Select will perform. It is an auditioned group chosen from the larger chorus and directed by Betsy Black from the keyboard.

Among the pieces in the second half will be a solo from “Phantom of the Opera” and an evocative setting of Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” from Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana.”

There is no fee for Choralaires concerts, but a free-will offering will be accepted. Bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating at the park concert. The rain venue for the Honesdale concert is Central United Methodist Church on Church and 11th streets.
