Vote for nature

Posted

Jane Cyphers of Milanville, PA co-founded Damascus Citizen for Sustainability (DCS). Her passion for protecting the environment locally and globally permeates everything she does and has since her early days at the family farm on the Chesapeake Bay.

A lifelong public school teacher, she continues to teach from the  DCS storefront every weekend.

Any great classroom is a place overflowing with information and inspiration that leads to learning and engagement. Jane knows that, and that is what visitors experience at the DCS storefront on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY—and through all of the group’s outreach and activities.

Like so many environmental activists, Jane is catalyzed  by her deep love of the natural world and the welfare and health of human beings that use it and who all too often abuse it.

She is a 21st-century earth mother and a devoted grandmother. Jane often brings her grandkids with her to the storefront on weekends to help her and to play and learn. There are events like the regular Songs of the Earth sing-along, which features fellow Damascus resident Lucas Rotman. He’s another Wayne County citizen who taught in New York City public schools.

Jane says, “ I hope when people vote that they give nature a vote. I feel like it deserves a vote.  It’s the air we breathe, where we walk, where we live and work. The water we drink and the food we eat all comes from nature. There has to be legislation that protects the environment.  We need to vote for those who will legislate those protections.”
