State Sen. Peter Oberacker, candidate for Congress in New York’s 19th District, released the following statement after Rep. Josh Riley declined all invitations to participate in a candidates’ debate.

“Josh Riley won’t debate because he can’t defend his record. When NYSEG hiked their rates on Upstate families again and again, Riley did nothing to stop it. No action, no results, just press releases. Even worse, now he’s hiding from voters because he refuses to explain why he profits off the same rate hikes he claims to oppose.”

“My offer still stands: I’ll meet Josh Riley anytime, anywhere in this district to debate the issues that matter to voters. Upstate families deserve to hear Riley explain why their bills keep going up while he sits on the sidelines counting his money. If Josh Riley won’t show up for a debate, why would anyone believe he’ll show up for them?”
